Core Service

Live Courtroom Interpreting

Federally certified Russian–English interpreting for immigration and federal court proceedings, with a focus on clarity, neutrality, and preserving the record for potential appellate review.

Scope of Live Interpreting Services

Live courtroom interpreting covers appearances where the court, the parties, and the respondent or witness must be able to communicate seamlessly in real time. The interpreter works as a neutral officer of the court, ensuring the Russian-speaking individual hears everything that is said, and that their testimony is accurately conveyed to the court.

Experience includes work in immigration courts, federal district courts, and state courts in a variety of procedural postures—from initial master calendar hearings to multi-day merits hearings and sentencing proceedings.

Common settings:
  • Master calendar and individual hearings in immigration court
  • Evidentiary hearings involving Russian-speaking witnesses
  • Change of plea and sentencing hearings
  • Bond and custody-related proceedings

Modes of Interpreting Offered

Consecutive Simultaneous (where appropriate) Sight Translation
  • Consecutive interpreting for testimony, allocution, and detailed colloquy
  • Simultaneous interpreting for advisals, objections, and sidebars where permitted
  • Sight translation of short written documents, advisals, or court forms

For Courts & Counsel

  • Direct court assignments through interpreter coordinators
  • Retained by counsel where private interpreters are permitted
  • Coordination with existing court technology (headsets, phone/video systems)
  • Support for remote proceedings via approved platforms

Standards & Ethical Framework

Live courtroom interpreting is performed in line with prevailing codes of ethics for judiciary interpreters, including impartiality, confidentiality, accuracy, and professional conduct.

  • Neutral role: Interpreter does not add, omit, or explain testimony.
  • Accuracy: Effort is made to preserve tone, register, and intent.
  • Confidentiality: Communications outside the presence of the court are treated as confidential.
  • Professionalism: Punctuality, preparation, and appropriate courtroom demeanor.

What Counsel Can Expect

  • Confirmation of appearance details (time, courtroom, judge, estimated duration)
  • Review of key names, places, and case-specific terminology in advance when possible
  • Coordination on any special needs (remote testimony, detained clients, secure facilities)
  • Clear boundaries between interpreting, note-taking, and any later audit work
Note on Audit & Live Work:

Where both live interpreting and later audit work might be requested for the same matter, potential role conflicts and expectations will be discussed with counsel in advance.
